Elijah Harvey Adams, age 87, passed away in Harlingen, Texas on July 19, 2024. Harvey was born on July 23, 1936 in Harlingen to Burt and Ruth Adams.
Harvey is survived by his five children, with “farmer’s luck,” he had one son and four daughters: his son Keith (Elaine) Adams of Harlingen, and his daughters Gayle (Dale) Misenhimer of Harlingen, Sharon (Ricky) Self of Spring, Janet (Jimmy) Whorton of Montgomery, and Judy Adams of Harlingen and special friend Sandie Shultz.
He is survived by his grandchildren Erin and Evie Adams, Kara (Edgard) Misenhimer-Pinheiro, Kenny (Amy) Misenhimer, Andrew (Kathryn) Self, Avery (James) Key, Jennifer (Taylor) Horton, Jeffrey and Jacob Whorton, and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Harriet Grayson and brother Earl (Dari Gale) Adams.
Harvey is preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Helen.
He graduated from Peacock Military School in San Antonio in 1954, then went on to attend Texas A&I where he met the love of his life, Helen.
Harvey was a life-long farmer in the Harlingen area. Starting as a young boy, he worked in the fields, drove tractors, and milked dairy cows. Through the years, his father Burt, his brother Earl, his son Keith and son-in-law Dale worked beside him as his farming partners. He enjoyed being outdoors, he loved to hunt, fish, and compete in shooting sports. From these activities, he made many life-long friends. Harvey held leadership roles for the Harlingen Irrigation District, Tri-County Gin Co-op, and others. He was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge.
Private services were held.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Misenhimer, Andrew Self, James Key, Jeffrey Whorton, Jacob Whorton, and Colton Derington. Honorary pallbearers are Rolando Tamayo, Charlie Shofner, Warren Carper, and Bill Beard.
