Elenora "Ella" Lyssy Young

September 9, 1917 — September 6, 2017

Elenora “Ella” Lyssy Young passed away from this life and into the arms of her Lord on September 6, 2017, just 3 days shy of her 100th birthday.  Elenora was born on September 9, 1917 in Cestohowa Texas to Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Lyssy.  Elenora is preceded in death by her parents, her 6 brothers (Fred Lyssy, Chester Lyssy, Leonard Lyssy, Anton Lyssy, Fabian Lyssy and Lewis Lyssy), loving husband of 56 years, Paul Joseph Young, Sr., her son, Alfred George Young, and her daughter, Doris Legere (Richard Legere).

Elenora is survived by her sister, Sylvia Skloss, her brother, Frank Lyssy, two daughters, Florence Carmony and Joan Bartnesky (Eddie Bartnesky, Sr.), one son, Paul Joseph Young, Jr., (Betty Young), daughter-in-law, Phyllis Young, 22 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and an ever growing number of great-great grandchildren.

Elenora’s family moved to South Texas in 1934, when Elenora was 17 years old and settled in McCook, Texas.  In 1935, Elenora met the love of her life, Paul Joseph Young, Sr. and married on November 27, 1935 in Mission, Texas.  Elenora and Paul resided in McCook, Texas for many years, later in Monte Alto, Texas and Harlingen, Texas.  Elenora worked passionately with the Harlingen School District and the Monte Alto School District for many years, sharing her kind and generous spirit with the children there each day.  Elenora was a firm woman of faith and a devoted member of Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church in Harlingen, Texas for many years and later attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in La Feria, Texas.  Aside from her strong relationship with her Lord and Savior, Elenora was deeply devoted to her family, serving tirelessly as an amazing daughter, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Elenora was known for her culinary skills and particularly her famous chicken-n-dumplings, gingerbread cookies, coffee cakes and popcorn balls.  All her family members have vivid memories of visiting Elenora’s house and leaving with a tummy full of homemade goodies.

Of all of Elenora’s many talents and characteristics, the one that everyone speaks of most is her kind and generous heart.  Elenora had a special way of making everyone around her feel so very loved and cared for.  This world has rarely seen another woman whose heart truly beat more for her family, friends, and others than for herself.  Her kind heart was truly a direct reflection of her love for the Lord and her steadfast Christian values.

Elenora enjoyed a wonderful life surrounded by family and friends, all of whom are so grateful that God shared this angel with us for so long.  A visitation from 12 PM to 9 PM with a Rosary at 7 PM will be held Sunday at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harlingen, Texas.  Mass will be held on Monday at  11 AM at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church in Harlingen, Texas followed by a private burial in McCook, Texas aside her loving husband and family.

Pallbearers will be Paul Young III, Eddie Joe Bartnesky, Larry Carmony, Glenn Carmony, Donald Carmony, and Chris Carmony.
