Eleanor C. Patterson

Harlingen, Texas:
Eleanor Binney Childress Patterson was born January 12, 1925 to Marguerite Bernard and Albert Brain in Long Beach, California and passed away on February 11, 2013 at her home in Harlingen.  She attended the University of Southern California, met Charles Binney II, and they were married on September 7, 1946.  They then moved to Austin where Charles completed his premedical courses and then relocated to Galveston for medical school.
After completing his pediatric training, Charles and Eleanor moved to Harlingen where Charles joined the Children’s Clinic in 1954.  After the untimely death of Charles in 1969, Eleanor took real estate courses and joined Van Wyk Realtors where she worked for over 20 years.  In 1983 Eleanor married Dr. Jim Childress who passed away three years later.  Her faith in God, as well as her commitment to Bible Study Fellowship where she was a discussion leader for over seven years, sustained her during these times.
After Jim’s death Eleanor moved to Golden Palms Retirement Center and in 1998 she met and married William W. Patterson, Jr.  They spent wonderful summers at his home on Cayuga Lake in upstate New York.  Eleanor celebrated Bill’s 100th birthday with him and his family in late September, 2012.  He passed away on December 17, 2012.
Eleanor was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Chapter CW P.E.O., the Junior League of Harlingen and the Harlingen Board of Realtors and was past president of the Cameron Willacy County Medical Auxiliary.
Eleanor was also preceded in death by her daughter Maggie Binney Lyon.  Survivors include her son, Bob (Cathy) Binney; grandchildren Lori Binney, Charlie Binney, Mary Beth (John) Friebele, Katy (Matt) Fisher, Owen (Casandra) Lyon, IV, and Eleanor Lyon; son-in-law, Owen Lyon, III; and great grandchildren Morgan and Rory Fisher and Cade and Hope Lyon.
She is survived by her cousins Bob (Dixie) Brain, Betty (Bob) Brain Hunter, Lenore Bolton, Michele Wolf, Tim Honan, Johnny Honan all of California and Marguerite O’Neill of Washington; and her twin half-sisters Sonja Barnett and Signa (Bill) Dawson of California.
Also surviving are Steve (Ellen) Childress, John (Sheila) Childress, Tommy Childress, Betsy (Robb) Patterson Neuman, Will (Judy) Patterson, Connie Patterson and Diane (Paul)Earnst, Bill’s ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Eleanor was extremely appreciative of her friend and care taker, Olga Gutierrez who made the last months of her and Bill’s lives fuller.
A memorial service celebrating Eleanor’s life will be held Saturday, February 16th at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m.
