Eleanor Downing Lemons

October 25, 1918 — January 4, 2018

Eleanor Downing Lemons passed away in her home on January 4, 2018, after a fruitful life.  Daughter Patricia Hargrove was at her side.

Eleanor Sturgeon was born in Saskatchewan, Canada on October 25, 1918.  In 1928 she moved to Iowa with her mother and younger sister Carmen.   She lived her teen years with her Aunt Mary Sturgeon in Des Moines, Iowa until she married James Hillis Downing in 1938.  In 1947, Hillis, Eleanor and their 3 children moved to a farm east of Lyford, TX.  Eleanor was active in the Lyford Methodist Church, the Stillman Community Club and her children’s school activities.  They moved to Harlingen in 1963 where Eleanor will be remembered as the manager of two fine ladies' dress shops.   After Hillis died in 1990, Eleanor married Mason Lemons in 1992.  Mason passed in 2010.

Eleanor Downing Lemons is predeceased by her two husbands and granddaughter Annette Perkins.  She is survived by her three children, James A. Downing of Austin, TX; William Hillis Downing of Rogers, AK; and Patricia Ann (Patti) Hargrove of Harlingen, 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

You are welcome at a graveside service for Eleanor at 2:30 Saturday, January 20 at Mont Meta Memorial Park, 26170 State Highway 345, San Benito.

In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice in Eleanor’s name will be appreciated by her family.
