Eileen Suzanne “Suzie” Ruhr Czeschin was born in St. Louis, Missouri on May 6, 1939 and passed away on Saturday December 18, 2021 at the age of 82 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
Suzie was the daughter of Melvin “Mel” Ruhr and Dorothy Shannon Ruhr Brim. Suzie received a degree from the University of Tulsa with honors in design and commercial art.
Suzanne Ruhr met Don Gordon Czeschin on a blind date in Ferguson, Missouri. In 1961, on a hot summer day Ferguson, Don and Suzie were married. Don passed away on February 22, 2020. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this year, 2021.
Don and Suzie moved to Puerto Rico, where they lived for six years, as Don’s business took him there. Their oldest son Don Jr. “Julio” was born in Puerto Rico before coming to the Valley.
Suzie worked as the Public Information Officer for the Harlingen Independent School District for many years along with other freelance artistic jobs in Harlingen. She was a very talented artist and was always so thoughtful about everyone. She was devoted to her husband, Don, and their two children, Don Jr. and Jon, who meant the world to her. She would always prepare a meal at night so the family could be together.
Suzie and Don loved their church friends from First United Methodist Church and had so many wonderful relationships with other families in Harlingen and from other cities of the Rio Grande Valley.
During the last several years, nearly every night, Suzie and Jon would pray the Lord’s Prayer together before ending their telephone conversation or in person before bedtime. It kept their focus on the main thing, their faith in Jesus Christ.
Suzie’s family will be eternally grateful to Gloria, Blanca and Lourdes, God’s angels, for their compassionate, loving care. These beautiful ladies willingly sacrificed time from their own families to help and care for Suzie, making it possible for her to stay at home. Heartfelt appreciation also to the doctors and nurses of Valley Baptist Medical Center MICU who cared for Suzie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, and their son, Don Jr. “Julio”, in 1997.
Left to treasure Suzie’s memory is her son, Jon Czeschin; her brother’s, wife Elaine Welty, and their family. She is also survived by family members from Don’s side.
