Edward Henry Ostrowski, Sr.
Santa Rosa, Texas:
Edward, a long time resident of Santa Rosa, passed away on May 4, 2008 at the age of 88.
He was born in Buffalo, New York, on September 20, 1919, to Boleslus and Mary Ostrowski. He moved from Ambridge, Penn with his parents and brother to Santa Rosa, Texas in 1933 becoming a lifetime farmer.
He married his best friend and sweetheart, Helen, on June 15, 1939. Eddie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather & friend. Eddie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a Charter member of Harlingen Elks Lodge No. 1889, Kiwanis Club, 13 years as a trustee on the Santa Rosa School Board, and a Director of the La Feria Irrigation No. 3 Water Board. Eddie was proud of his 30 years of service to the Farm Credit System and Federal Land Bank Association of Edinburg. As Chairman, Director and Director At Large Eddie made valuable contributions to the betterment of this association and to the farmers and ranchers of Texas through a tradition of dedicated service and outstanding leadership. He believed in strong family bonds, hard work and a firm belief in God.
He is preceded in death by Helen, his wife of 64 years, his parents, and brother, Ted.
He is survived by his son Edward (Martha) Ostrowski, Jr. of Santa Rosa; daughter, Mary Gene “Cookie” Garbutt of Corpus Christi; six grandchildren; Monica (Will) Blackwell of Beeville, Michelle (Brian) O’Ferrall of San Antonio, Joe (Cheryl) Garbutt of Murrieta, Calif., Milissa (Buford) Taylor of Michie, Tenn., Tim (Kristine) Garbutt of Ingleside and Ed Ernest Ostrowski of Santa Rosa; nine great-grandchildren; Clay and Wyatt Blackwell, Corey and Connor O’Ferrall, Kayley, Aley, and Brianna Garbutt, and Justin and Jesika Dees; sister-in-law Alvina (Charles) Eubanks and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 710 Ed Carey Dr., Harlingen, TX with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, with interment to follow at Restlawn Cemetery, La Feria.
Pallbearers will be Lloyd Betts, Wilbur Brooks, Karl Cole, James Carlson, Charles Allen Eubanks, and Richard Steele.
Eddie’s family is especially thankful to San Juana “Janie” Perez, who helped take care of “Grandpa” after “Grandma” passed away in 2003.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
