Edgar L. Clinton Jr., 66, of Raymondville, Texas, died Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Valley Baptist Medical Center from complications related to liver disease. In hospice care prior to his death, Clinton died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Houston, Texas, March 24, 1952 to Edgar L. Clinton Sr. and Adele Marie Clinton, Edgar spent his early years living in North Carolina and West Virginia until they settled in Raymondville, Texas in 1969, where the family purchased KSOX Radio and Clinton family farm. Edgar was married to Catalina Garcia for 29 years and had three children He worked as a radio voice talent and advertising salesman for the majority of his life, both for the family business and several other radio stations in South Texas. After many years of mutual friendship, love and admiration, Edgar married Epifania Perez May 7, 2016 and they resided on the Clinton Family Farm with their dogs and beloved chickens.
Long known for his musical and writing gifts, Clinton was founder, editor and contributing author of The Writers of the Rio Grande. He composed poetry under the name Edgardo and recited his poetry at many festivals and enjoyed singing and playing his guitar as member of the Gardo Band.
He is survived by his wife, Epifania Clinton, son Justin Clinton and wife Kema, daughter, Adele Clinton-Solis and husband Brandon, daughter, Catherine Clinton Welch and husband Tyler, granddaughters Brynn, Raelyn and Adele Marie, grandson Colt, brothers Christopher and Simeon Clinton, and mother of his children, Catalina Clinton.
A memorial service will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harlingen, Texas Saturday, April 28th at 11am. As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Harlingen Public Library.
