Sebastian/Harlingen:
Ed Long, 83, passed away Monday, October 13, 2008 in Ozona, Texas.
Ed was born in Honeygrove, Texas on May 17, 1925. He was a longtime Sebastian resident and entrepreneur with farming, ranching and business interests. Ed served in the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) as a young man at Bandelier National Park in New Mexico. He was World War II veteran and was stationed in the Philippines. He served as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church in Sebastian from many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Valley before retiring to his home in Harlingen.
Ed is survived by wife, Lillian Long of Harlingen; sons, Eddie Long and Brooks Long; daughters, Deborah Harrell and Vicki Jacobs; grandchildren, Shane Long, Waylen Long, Lisa Long Wilcox, Wayne Kanemitsu, Marla Kanemitsu, Daniel Harrell, Corey Ashcraft, Kim Ashcraft Vela, Joshua Long, Jordan Long, Daniel Long, Amanda Kibler and Andrea Trapp; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Long and son, Delmer Long.
Visitation hours will be from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Thursday, October 16, 2008 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home. Graveside services only will be held at Restlawn Memorial Park near La Feria, 10:00 AM, Friday, October 17, 2008 with Herman Cramer officiating.
