Ecio Gerardo Hernandez was called to eternal rest by his loving Lord on November 22, 2015. Ecio was born on October 3, 1939 in Rio Hondo, Texas to Librado Villanueva Hernandez and Juanita Hernandez Hernandez. He joins Song Cha, his loving wife of forty-five (45) years at the second coming of our Savior Jesus Christ.
Ecio was preceded in death by his; parents, wife, sister Ophelia Heistand (Bruce), and half-sister Paulita Torres. Surviving his departure are sons; Gerardo Hernandez and Daniel Hernandez of Rio Hondo, brothers; Amadeo (Norma) of Rolling Meadows, Illinois, Librado (Elia) of Harlingen, Andres (Minerva) of McAllen, half brothers and sisters; Juanita Guerra(Jose) of Harlingen, Maria Andrews (Raymond) of Austin, Texas, Erasmo Torres (Josie) of San Benito, Vickie Cano and Martin Torres of Arkansas, Fedencio Torres of Harlingen, and Daniel Torres of La Feria. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
From a humble and challenging beginning, Ecio dropped out of high school and later earned his GED. After serving six (6) years in the US Army, with two (2) tours in the Vietnam War he received his Honorable Discharge as a Staff Sargent, he married the love of his life and returned to civilian life. He received an associate degree in Applied Science from St Philip’s College in San Antonio he joined Chrysler Motor Company where he retired after 24 years.
Ecio and Song enjoyed their retirement years visiting family and friends. They traveled the Eastern United States from the Florida Keys to the Lobster Pound Houses in Main. Ecio was a generous person frequently helping families in financial need. He also rejoiced in his services as a Mason. He was very grateful for the wonderful friendship he shared with friends from Michigan where he lived for over thirty-seven (37) years. He was very happy with the friendships he made at the Golden Palms Retirement Center in Harlingen. For almost two and a half years, Ecio cherished the companionships of both the residents and staff at the center.   The family wants to thank the CIMA Hospice for the wonderful nurses and CNA’s that attended to Ecio.
Visiting hours are  Sunday, November 29, 2015, beginning at 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon and concluding at 9:00 o’clock at night, with a prayer service to be held at 7:00 o’clock in the evening within the San Benito Funeral Home Chapel, 1400 W. Hwy 77, San Benito, Texas 78586 with Pastor Marlon Siefert officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted   Monday, November 30, 2015 at 10:00 o’clock in the morning at  Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, 2520 South Inspiration Road., Mission, Texas 78572.
