Earl Johnson was born at home in Coleta Township, Illinois on June 23, 1917 to Helen (Heidi) and Frank Johnson.  He passed peacefully from this life to his home in Heaven on January 23rd, 2012 at his home in Santa Rosa.
Earl moved to the Santa Rosa area in 1945 with his wife Dorothy Kloepping Johnson and began farming. The family lived in Santa Rosa until 1966 when Earl retired from faming and moved to Winneabago, Illinois where he started a new career with Rockford Products Co. in Rockford, Illinois.  In 1980, the family returned to Santa Rosa where he retired once again to his beloved farm where he lived out his years. Together, Dorothy and Earl raised three Christian men and enjoyed 63 years of marriage before Dorothy’s passing in 2007.
Earl was a faithful member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Harlingen where he was the oldest living member.  He was usually the first to arrive at church and one of the last to leave.
He is survived by his sons, Larry Johnson of Santa Rosa, Roger Johnson of Austin and Alan (Elizabeth) Johnson of Harlingen. Also surviving is a foster daughter, Rose Barton of Houston. Earl is also survived by a sister, Florence Utech of Rockford, Illinois and sister-in-law, Betty Johnson of Freeport, Illinois. His legacy lives on through four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church on Thursday, January 26th, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with a private burial following at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria. Visitation with the family will be at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 25th, with the family present from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Saint Paul Lutheran Church, 602 Morgan Boulevard, Harlingen, Texas 78550 or to Loaves and Fishes, 514 South E Street , Harlingen, Texas 78550.
The family gratefully acknowledges Dr. Juan Maldonado, Dr. Nolan Perez, Dr. Todd Shenkenberg and Odyssey Hospice for their compassionate care. Special thanks to Estella Cepeda who was his care giver for so many years. She was a true blessing to him and the family.
