Dwight R. Frederick

Dwight R. Frederick, 88, passed away May 21, 2020 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX where he was taken by ambulance for severe pain and an infection that rapidly spread. He was put on life support and went to be with the Lord in just a few short days. Dwight was born March 4, 1932 in Flaxville to Eugene and Mable Frederick. He attended school in Scobey and married Lana Woodahl in 1982. Dwight joined the army after he graduated high school and served in the Korean War for two years and was honorably discharged. He also volunteered in the Color Guard and was always ready and willing to serve when they called on him. He was a pillar in his community and well liked and respected by all who know him. He farmed with his two brothers LeRoy and Percy and after they retired, he farmed with his two nephews. Later Dwight sold his portion of land to Alan Danielson. He also bought other farmland that he farmed on shares with Don Hagan. Dwight loved farming in the fields, talking about it, and would even share dreams he had farming. No wonder his father-in-law called him the “Wheat King”, which he joyfully and readily accepted. Dwight was kind hearted and generous with a hearty fun-loving laughter and gladly gave a helping hand to others as well as his time. He really enjoyed his fishing and camping trips and loved sitting around shooting the breeze with friends and acquaintances discussing farming and solving the world’s problems. Dwight also had his pilot license and used to enjoy flying his 1941 prop plane around to the different farms. He also belonged to a flying club back in his days with other friends and would take to the skies in a single-engine piper aircraft flying to different cities in Montana like Great Falls and Billings. Dwight loved life and lived it to the fullest. He also liked to travel a great deal and see different places. Once taking a cruise on the Delta Queen, we stopped at a port in Natchez, MS where he saw a barbershop that did the old style blade shaves and without thinking twice about it, he walked in determined and ready to get one, he did and he absolutely loved it. I was taking picture of the whole procedure and the barber was ready to show off what he could do. Another time when Dwight was pushing 80, he got the notion to do something different that he thought would be fun and exciting, so he went up in the sky 13,000 ft. and jumped out of the airplane skydiving, challenging the skies and adventure and he really thought that was something! Dwight loved his family and always enjoyed a nice long visit with his daughter Farrah, they were very close and she also served in the Army. He was overjoyed when his grandkids Gabriel Dwight and Abigail Katherine come to visit, showering him with love and hugs. On December 1, 2014 in Cheyenne, WY Dwight asked Jesus Christ into his life to be his Lord and Savior. He enjoyed listening to the Scripture and it is well with his soul. Dwight was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was my best friend. He will be greatly missed, always loved and remembered for the very special man that he was. He is survived by his wife Lana Frederick of South Padre Island, TX, daughter Farrah Middleton of MD and husband Bryant, grandchildren Gabriel and Abigail, an older brother Jack of Billings  along with nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Mable Frederick, brothers Eugene and Percy, sisters Joyce Chapman, Dawn Henson, and Margaret Williamson plus a nephew Dallas Williamson. Memorial services pending at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, TX with full military honors. Memorial donations may be sent in Dwight Frederick’s name to the VFW or to a VA nursing home facility.
