Local luminary, businesswoman, and community volunteer extraordinaire, Dulce María Velasco Madrigal , 87, died of heart disease y la bola de años .  Her winding journey on this Earth came to an end on October 30, 2017.  Born on November 29, 1929, in Mexico City, Dulce became a citizen of the United States in her 20’s, taking root in her beloved San Benito.

A force of will with an indomitable spirit, Dulce was a strong, proud, and independent woman who:  Tenaciously, overcame personal adversity. Lovingly, nurtured a family and friendships.  Devotedly, raised children. Successfully, built a business. Unselfishly, gave to the community.  And religiously, lived out her Faith in God.

Dulce had a zest for living and was always on the go.  Her unique style, fashion sense, chic dresses, colorful outfits, and flair for accessorizing were legend.  She also wore pants and dressed in pantsuits ahead of her time and was a feminist before it had a name.  Her inner essence, as well as her eau de cologne, was Beautiful.

Dulce is predeceased by her mother, América Galindo Velasco, her father, Felipe de Jesús Velasco, and her husband of 50 years, Oscar Madrigal.  She is survived by her children, Ricardo, Sergio, Dulce, and Sylvia; her daughters-in-law, Janie and Gloria; her granddaughters, Eva-Dina, Sophie, Veronica, Olivia, and Dulce III; and her great-granddaughter, Isla. Dulce’s granddaughters will serve as her pallbearers.
