Douglas Edna (Carroll) Goike, 86, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at Solara Hospital in Harlingen after a brief bout of cancer.  Douglas was born December 4, 1920 in Zephyr, TX to Joseph Barney Carroll and Ruth (Carpenter) Carroll.
She was a graduate of La Feria High School, while in high school she was on the baseball and basketball teams. After high school she attended Durham’s Business College in Harlingen and then became the Administrative Assistant to the Athletic Director at Harlingen High School for 20 years.  Douglas loved to travel and did so at every opportunity.  She loved her bridge buddies, golf partners, dominoes group and making hand-stitched quilts.
She is survived by her three children, Mary Jakl of Austin, TX, Douglas Goike of Round Rock, TX and Frances Sticher of Seabeck, WA; sister, Jessie Lowery of Belton, TX; brother, Jim Carroll of Lake Montezuma, AZ; four grandchildren: Christopher and Cullen Goike of Round Rock, TX, Scott Jakl of Pearland, TX and Steven Jakl of Denton, TX. Douglas is also survived by her brother-in-law, Ed Goike of Harlingen; sister-in-law, Virginia Odile Rushing of San Diego, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Douglas’ Life will be held Saturday, April 7, 2007, 2 p.m., at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1406 E. Austin Ave, Harlingen.
