Dorothy Elizabeth West

December 15, 1920 — April 7, 2009

Harlingen, TX:
Dorothy Elizabeth West, 88, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at McAllen Medical Center. She was born December 15, 1920 in Cleveland, Ohio to Henry and Florence Buehner.
Dorothy attended Catholic School, and then worked as a bookkeeper for Fisher Bodies in Cleveland until 1944 when she came to Rio Hondo to marry Robert “Bob” West.  The rest of her life was devoted to caring for her husband and family and keeping the books for their farm and ranch.  In 1985 Bob became bedridden.  Dorothy was his care giver until his death May 12, 1994.
As a result of being a child of the great depression, Dorothy was very conservative.  Wasting your time, talent or resources was unacceptable to her.  In her later years she would allow herself to relax with a cup of hot tea and listen to beautiful music.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her younger sister, Coletta Mowchan of Madison, Ohio; her husband, Bob; and her son, John F. West of McAllen.
She is survived by her daughters Coletta (Chuck) Laycock of Harlingen and Helen Tilley of McAllen; her daughter-in-law, Harriette Roush West of McAllen; grandchildren, Colette (Jeff) Breedlove of Dallas, Carla (John) Pearcy of Harlingen, Ian West and Summer West of McAllen; four great grandchildren; a step grandson Eric (Elizabeth) Prince and two step great grandsons of North Carolina.  She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews from Bob’s six siblings and three nieces and one nephew from her sister.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.            In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Baylor College of Medicine ALS Clinic, 6550 Fannin, Suite 1801, Houston, TX 77030.
