Dorothy Johnson was born on January 30th, 1921 to Daniel & Grace (Walkey) Kloepping in Freeport, Illinois.  She passed from this life into life everlasting on July 1st, 2007, with her husband of 63 years by her side.
Dorothy moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1928 with her parents who settled in the Santa Rosa area as a pioneer family.  She attended the Santa Rosa Public Schools where she graduated in 1939.  Shortly after graduation she returned to Freeport, Illinois where she worked and eventually met Earl Johnson whom she married in 1944.  They have enjoyed 63 years of marriage.  Dorothy & Earl moved to the Valley in 1945 where they began farming.  She was a devoted wife & mother who always held high her Christian values and made sure her family grew in the ways of the Lord.
Dorothy was a life-long faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Harlingen where she served in the Ladies Aid, the Saint Paul Christian Day School PTA, taught Sunday School and as a young woman played the church organ.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Earl Johnson, her sons Larry Johnson of Santa Rosa, Alan (Elizabeth) Johnson of Harlingen and Roger Johnson of Austin, and a foster daughter, Rose Barton of Houston.  She is survived as well by her brother Robert Kloepping of Harlingen as well a four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.  Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Florence Utech and Betty Johnson both of Illinois.
Memorial services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Thursday, July 5th, 2007 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Marcus Mueller officiating.
Friends wishing to call on the family are invited to the home of Alan and Elizabeth Johnson on Tuesday, July 3rd from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.  A reception will also be held immediately following the services at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 602 Morgan Blvd., Harlingen, Texas 78550 or to Sunny Glen Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1373, San Benito, Texas 78586.
The family would like to thank all the very special and caring women who cared for Dorothy throughout her lengthy illness, especially Benita Castro and Inez de la Garza.  They would also like to thank the staff and nurses of Sandi Jo Funk Hospice.  All of Dorothy’s caregivers were a true blessing to her and to her family.
