Dorothy E. Alvarez passed away March 9, 2025, at the age of 92.

After graduating high school, she moved to San Antonio and worked at Southwestern Bell as an operator. Dorothy met the love of her life and beloved husband of 50 years, Juan Alvarez, and had five children. Dorothy and Juan later retired in Port Mansfield, TX. Dorothy always cherished the moments when guests arrived, and she had a special way of making everyone feel welcomed. She believed that a lovingly prepared meal was the heart of togetherness, a way to connect family and friends. She had many hobbies, including reading, gardening, ceramics, and playing bunco with friends. She also loved spending time at the beach, especially searching for seashells in the early morning. She cherished her family above all and was known for her wit, sense of humor, and playful banter with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need and had a deep compassion for animals.

She is survived by her siblings, Martha Staton, Pamela Allen, Sarah Greer, Buddy Petty, Bobby Petty, Jeff Petty; children, John Alvarez Jr., Judy Collard, Laura Lester, Elizabeth Priest, Monroe Alvarez; 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Juan Alvarez and her beloved dog Toby.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Mont Meta Memorial Park in the Mausoleum Chapel.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Tony Alvarez, Monroe Alvarez, William Stark, Monroe Alvarez, John Alvarez Jr., and JT Alvarez.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Sunshine Haven and the Harlingen Humane Society in Dorothy's honor.
