Doris Virginia Anderson, 88, entered eternal rest Sunday, May 22, 2022.
Doris, better known as “Mom-A”, was born on December 7, 1933 in Barry Texas. She graduated from Kenedy High School 1952 where she played in the band and was on the girls’ basketball team. Doris met the love of her life, Ted, in Kenedy, Texas and were married on August 2, 1952. Together they had two children. They moved their young family to the Rio Grande Valley in 1959 and were residents of McAllen for 40 years. She worked as the secretary for the First Baptist Church of Pharr for over 25 years. Later, because of her excellent accounting skills, she went to work for Security State Bank in Pharr until her retirement. Doris and Ted were active members in their church and were instrumental in the building of the new First Baptist Church of Pharr on Ridge Road.
In 1999, Ted and Doris moved to Carthage, Texas fulfilling their dreams of owning land and gardening. During their years in Carthage, they were very involved in “Mission Carthage” where they helped with numerous food pantries, produce drops and distributions. They lived their later years shelling peas on their back porch overlooking their beautiful east Texas property. They made the best homemade preserves putting their love and blessings into each jar.
Doris was a woman of deep faith and had a servant’s heart. She had an infectious laugh and wore her heart on her sleeve. Mom-A was the most giving and generous mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend to so many. She never met a stranger and was an incredible baker. She always made everyone she knew a cake for their birthday. Her greatest pride and joy was doting and loving all her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Ted G. Anderson; her parents, Charlie F. Kagler and Mary W. Collier Kagler; and her sister, Sue Kagler Childress.
Doris is survived by her children, Gary (Wendy) Anderson of Kerrville, Texas, and Lyn (Mike) Flanagan of Laguna Vista, Texas; six grandchildren, Travis (Cory) Flanagan of Laguna Vista, Texas, Shannon (Caleb) Smith of Edinburg, Texas, Carson (Julianne) Anderson, Fort Worth; Justus (Caroline) Anderson of Fort Worth, Texas, Landon (Jennifer) Anderson of San Antonio, Texas, and Andrew (Chelsea) Anderson of Boise, Idaho; eleven great-grandchildren, Parker, Mckenzie, Tanner, Charlie, Allie, Reid, Claire, Lilly, Roy, Katherine and Jonah. She is also survived by her youngest sister, Charlene Kagler of Carthage, Texas, as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family wishes to express a great deal of love and appreciation to Kindred Hospice and Treasure Hills Residential Nursing Facility in Harlingen for their extra support and dedication to her care.
Mom-A has “fought the good fight” she has “finished the course” she has “kept the faith” she has “received her crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge has awarded to her.” (2 Timothy 4:7-8)
