Doris Lorene Shepard Thormahlen (June 5, 1934 - June 1, 2017)
Doris Shepard Thormahlen (Dorry) was born on June 5, 1934 in Lockport, New York, to Wendall Holmes and Harriet Amelia Shepard and passed away at the age of 82 on June 1, 2017.  She was married to her loving and devoted husband Jarvis Thormahlen for 64 years.
Dorry is survived by her sister Judy Russell and her husband Raymond Russell, and her sister-in-law Barbara Shepard. She is also survived by two daughters, Sandy Thormahlen and Chris Thormahlen Archbold; her sons-in-law Glenn Sprecher and Scott Archbold; her six grandchildren, Lane Morris, Carrie Morris, Leslie Doty and her husband Daniel Doty, Kyle Archbold and his wife Rachel Archbold, Matthew Archbold, and Ian Archbold; as well as her two great grandchildren, Grayson Doty and Charlotte Doty.
Dorry was preceded in death by her brother James Shepard and her daughters Kathy Thormahlen Sprecher and Julie Ann Thormahlen.
Dorry and her husband Jarvis were long residents of South Texas, much of that time in the Rio Grande Valley, living in Weslaco from 1963 to 1980 and in Harlingen since 1986. Dorry was a lover of great classical music, serving as organist at Faith Lutheran Church in Weslaco for 17 years as well as singing in church choirs and playing in the bell choir.  Her love of music and her enduring faith were great gifts to her daughters, family, and friends.  She had a passion for reading, diligently worked a crossword puzzle a day to keep her mind sharp, and faithfully met her friends for coffee and cookies at Quips & Quotes several times a week.  She was a woman of quick wit and deep kindness -- a truly devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
The service for Dorry will be held on Monday, June 5, at 11:00 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Harlingen, Texas, where she and Jarvis were long-time active members. Dorry was a dedicated member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, regularly visiting church members in the hospital and ministering to elderly shut-ins. Memorials can be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church in honor of her faithful service to God.
