Harlingen:
Doris Francis Birdsong Russell, 82, passed away Friday, June 11, 2010 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.
Doris was born on March 29, 1928 in Dike, Texas to Chester and Callie Birdsong.  She grew up in and around the East Texas area and graduated from Mr. Vernon High School in Mt. Vernon, Texas.
Doris was a longtime resident of Harlingen.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Harlingen and faithfully worked in the Church Nursery for 31 years.
Doris is survived by her husband, Horace Russell of Harlingen; daughter, Pamela Ann Sims of Winnsboro, TX; sisters, Jo Bagly of Winnsboro, TX, Wanda Secrest of McKinney, TX and Betty Richardson of Canton, TX; grandchildren, Christopher Dale Sims of Winnsboro, TX, Audra Ann Sims of Tyler, TX and Nathan Andrew Russell of Dallas, TX; and four great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, James Birdsong and Wayne Birdsong and son, Lynn Russell.
Visitation hours will be  from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the family receiving friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday, June 14, 2010 at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Hall officiating.  Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Russell, Joseph Kehlbrick, Nathan Russell, Chris Sims, Chris Allen and Jack Abbott.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, Building  Fund, 501 E. Van Buren, Harlingen, Texas 78550.
