Dora L. (De Leon) Ramos

Dora L. Ramos peacefully passed from this life on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 89 years of age.  She was born to the late Manuel R. De León and Guadalupe De León on March 2, 1932 in San Benito, Texas.

She was a longtime, valued employee of the Cameron County Health Department until her retirement after 30 years of dedicated service.  Among her accomplishments was that of being the first Hispanic in the Rio Grande Valley to learn shorthand. In her leisure time, Dora enjoyed arts & crafts and playing Lotería.  She was a devout Catholic and a faithful member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in San Benito.

Dora was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel R. and Guadalupe De León.  Left to treasure her memory are her daughters, Teresa (Raúl) Saldivar and Martha Atkinson; grandchildren, Nicholas Saldívar, Samantha Atkinson, and Katy Atkinson; sister, María Antonia De León; brother, José Luis De León; and numerous nieces, nephews, and primos.

The family is grateful to Dora’s caregivers, Yesenia Galván, Reyna González, and Silvia Romo, for their compassionate care.

Dora’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home.  A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock on Tuesday evening.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church with Rev. Jose Villalón, Jr., Celebrant.  Following the Mass, Dora will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Larry Salazar, Ernie Vásquez, Joel Munivez, Eduardo Saldívar, Christopher De León, Mark De León, and Jose Luis De León III.  Honorary pallbearers are Samantha Atkinson and Katy Atkinson.
