HARLINGEN:
Dora “Ethel” Thomas died peacefully on September 4, 2007 at her home in Harlingen, Texas. Ethel was born on March 4, 1929 in Athens, TN to L.C. and Midd Strickland. She was married to her loving husband, Arlie for 59 years; they spent most of their lives in Harlingen. Ethel worked for Southwestern Bell for 12 years and worked 25 years for the Harlingen Independent School District, most recently for Sam Houston Elementary School. She was an active member of the Harlingen congregation of the First Church of the Nazarene until her health prevented attendance.
Ethel is survived by her devoted husband Arlie and her daughter Cathy Peters of Dallas. She had two grandsons Stephen (Meredith) Beuchaw of New York, NY and Jason (Amanda) Beuchaw of Nevada, KS that she was very proud of and loved dearly. Ethel was also blessed with a great grandson Cayden Beuchaw of Nevada, KS. She is also survived by her brothers, Jim Strickland of Kerrville, Carl (Gayle) Strickland of Corpus Christi, TX and Dewey Strickland of San Benito; sister, Dorothy (Lynn) Bradford of Huntsville, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Grace Fritz and brother, L.C. Strickland.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 7, 2007 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2007, 2 p.m., at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito with Rev. Bob Seal officiating.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Beuchaw, Jason Beuchaw, Steve Kelly, Clifton Bradford, Steve Bradford, Mark Magouirk and Lee Smith. Honorary pallbearer will be Alfred Magouirk.
The family would like to thank Odyssey Health Care for their kindness and devotion to the care of their loved one.
