Dora Celia Maldonado, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016 at her home in Harlingen, Texas. She was born on September 21, 1930 in Montemorelos, Nuevo León, Mexico, to Israel and Dolores (Cantu) Rios. As the oldest of seven children she always showed strength of character and will. On June 14, 1948 she married Salomon Maldonado and after a short time in 1953 moved to the United States along with their son, Roberto.
Dora dedicated her life to family focused on her children and grandchildren.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents, Israel and Dolores (Cantu) Rios, her sisters, Rebecca Correa and Leticia Coello, her brother Benjamin Rios and her son Roberto Maldonado.
Dora is survived by her husband of 68 years Salomon; her sons, Cesar (Liz) Maldonado of Houston; and Jorge (Rosie) Maldonado of Harlingen; brothers Israel (Corina) Rios, Ariel (Celia) Rios, and Gerardo (Angelica) Rios all of Harlingen; grandchildren Laura (Jason) Rocha of Houston, Vanessa Heck of Dallas, Marcus Maldonado of Harlingen, Alexis (Chase) Mansell of Houston, Christopher (fiancé Marisa Cortez) Maldonado of Harlingen, Kristin (Alan) Gomez of Houston, Nick Maldonado of New York City, Selina Maldonado of Austin, Cassie Maldonado of Los Angeles; great-grandchildren Julianne and William Rocha, Harrison and Preston Heck, Vincent and Elise Mansell; and many other close and treasured relatives.
Services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home at 710 Ed Carey Drive, Harlingen, Texas on Saturday, May 28th. A visitation will be held from 1pm to 7pm, with the memorial service beginning at 7pm.
