Dolores Louise Brotzman passed from this life on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the age of 86. Born in San Benito to Harry Elzy Barr and Esther Thelma (Riemenschneider) Barr, and raised in Raymondville, she graduated from Raymondville High School in 1951 as Class Salutatorian. She then enrolled at the University of North Texas and graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in 1956. Dolores began her teaching career at Harlingen High School in 1956. She married the love of her life, Homer Deane Brotzman in 1957, and together, they raised two children.
Dolores taught for a few years in Rio Hondo and Los Fresnos, but spent the majority of her 30-year teaching career at Harlingen High School until she retired in 1986. After retirement from full-time teaching, she wrote practice tests for UIL accounting competitions, and served as a consultant at the UIL state accounting competition in Austin for several years.
Mrs. Brotzman was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the American Association of University Women, Texas State Teachers Association, Texas Business Educators Association (TBEA), and was twice named the TBEA District 1 Teacher of the Year.
Dolores is survived by her children Denise Martin of Ingram, Texas, and Richard Brotzman of Harlingen, Texas, her sister, Peggy Oakes of Hudson Oaks, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Homer Deane Brotzman, her sisters Elma Taylor, Dixie Hill, and her brother, Harold Earl “Bill” Barr.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, at the First United Methodist Church in Harlingen, 321 E. Harrison Avenue.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Harlingen, 321 E. Harrison Avenue, Harlingen, Texas 78550.
