Dennis R. Janssen

January 1, 1946 — September 25, 2020

Dennis Ray Janssen, 74, was living in Harlingen, Texas when he passed away on Friday, September 25, 2020 due to complications with his heart at Valley Baptist Medical Center.

Born in Watseka, IL, to parents Louis and Laverne (Schumacher) Janssen, on January 1, 1946.

Dennis met his wife Sue in high school, and they were married for 54 years.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1966-1969 and was stationed in Maryland.  They returned to Buckley where he farmed for many years before retiring and moving to Harlingen.  Dennis was a hard worker and tried to balance that with family and a good game of golf. He was active in the local legion post and an avid Dutchmaster fan.   After retiring he became very active in their church, community functions, socializing and even enjoyed some line dancing.  Dennis and Sue spent a great deal of time raising donations and sponsoring activities for the Sunny Glen Children’s Home in San Benito.  If you knew Dennis, you knew that he enjoyed playing cards with friends in their community, driving around his golf cart and bragging about his grandchildren.

Dennis was survived by his wife Sue (Meuser), son Darren (Kati) of Denver, Colorado; daughter Staci (Chad) Hannah and grandchildren Kylie and Jackson Pfingsten of Fishers, Indiana.  He was also survived by a brother Darrel (Carolyn) Janssen of Dallas, Texas and sister Linda (Larry) Hunt of Thomasville, North Carolina with multiple nieces and their families.  He was proceeded in death by his father, Louis; mother, Laverne; and stepmother Helen (Bauer) Janssen.

A small family service was held on Sunday, September 27th in Harlingen.  A memorial service will be held at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sunny Glen Children’s Home (2385 W. Expressway 83, San Benito, TX. 78586; phone 956-399-5356).
