David L. Kilbourn

David Leroy Kilbourn of Combes, Texas died Sunday, January 27, 2019 at the age of 78. David was born March 5, 1940 in Harlingen, Texas to Mamie Velma Harris Kilbourn and Lee Roy Francis Kilbourn. David grew up in Combes and remained there for the rest of his life. He graduated from Harlingen High School in 1959. David began farming with his dad after high school and married Rose Mary Gray in 1961. Continuing to farm, growing cotton, sorghum, corn, and sweet corn, David worked for vegetable suppliers in La Feria, Texas and in the late seventies managed Producers Gin in Harlingen.

David married Debra Matlock on July 25, 1987 and in the early nineties started working for Tri-Pak Machinery.

David loved fast cars, hunting, fishing, barbecuing, and being close to friends and family. As an avid prankster, David was often receiving pay backs to which he endured with a devilish grin. David loved a good party and wanted everyone to join in the fun. He never said a harsh word and never talked poorly of anyone. He will be remembered for his caring heart and gentle manor. The stars in heaven are shining a little brighter tonight because he is there.

David is survived by his wife Debra Matlock, children Joe David Kilbourn (Laurie), Tammy McCants (Bret), Heidi Manke (Dan), Melody Gonzales (Rey), and Weldon Matlock (Kristi). David had fourteen grandchildren, Cody Kilbourn, Lacey Kilbourn, Karsen Kilbourn, Krystin Kilbourn, Katy Floyd, Jordan McCants, Alyssa Shertz, Danielle McCants,  Holly Manke, Courtney Manke, Shannon Gonzalez, Kennedi Gonzalez, John Matlock and Kaylie Matlock. He is also survived by Troy Jordan (nephew) and Peggy Jordan (niece). He was preceeded in death by his parents and sister, Frances Jordan.

The family would like to thank Alta Vista Health Care, Kindred Hospice, and nurses Lupita and Dora.

Memorial visitation will be held Saturday, February 9, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
