David Quimby Day was 85 and a resident of Harlingen, Texas for 63 years when he died Sunday, January 3rd, 2021, of complications from a stroke he suffered in 2010.
David was the first of twin boys born September 25, 1935, to Beatrice Hurlock and Newell C. Day in Burlington, Iowa. The family, including 4 older sisters and his twin brother, moved to Davenport, Iowa, where David graduated from high school. After graduating with honors from Grinnell College in 1957, Lieutenant Day came to Texas to serve in the Air Force, and brought his bride, Lois Fredregill, to Harlingen Air Force Base in 1958. They raised their 3 children, Laura, David and Sarah, in Harlingen.
David followed his father into the life insurance business and devoted his entire life to assisting clients with their financial planning and protection. Although that was his main calling, he also served as an elder for the First Christian Church in Harlingen and loved singing in the church choir. It was his joy to also sing in the Harlingen Chorale from its first performance to its last.
Another joy was spending time at his San Cristobal ranch near San Isidro. All three children, along with their families, enjoyed annual gatherings at Thanksgiving.
Although David’s last year was a challenge, he rallied through 3 hospitalizations and 3 nursing homes, and ultimately was blessed with peace, love, and comfort his last 8 weeks in the home of his son David, wife Linda, and their 4 children.
