Harlingen:
Danny Mann, Sr., aged 72, beloved, husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed from this life to the next on Monday, October 1, 2007.
He is survived by, Norma, his wife of 49 years, his son, Danny Mann, Jr. of Harlingen, his daughter, Cindy Fulfer and her husband, Kenneth of Houston, his daughter, Sheryl Jones and her husband, Todd, of Plano.
He has four grandsons, Bradford and Bryant Fulfer and Adam and Grant Jones.
He is also survived by his two brothers, Ronnie Mann and his wife Mary, of Brownsville and Johnny Mann and his wife Linda, of Texarkana, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Mann was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on February 19, 1935, to L.H. and Shorty Mann, who preceded him in death.
After marrying Norma on December 26, 1958, he spent a short time in the Marine Corps before graduating from Abilene Christian University in 1959.
Upon graduation, Mann returned to the Valley to work with his father in his Gibson Wholesale Company. Over the next 26 years, they, along with his two brothers, opened nine Gibson Discount stores, spreading from Brownsville to Victoria, Texas.
When the Gibson stores were closed, the Mann family open two Drug Emporiums, one in Brownsville and one in Victoria. These stores were closed in 2005.
Mann was an enthusiastic and active member of the 8th & Harrison Church of Christ, in Harlingen. He served as a deacon and an elder for more than 25 years.
He was an avid supporter of Christian education.
Visitation will be on Thursday, October 4 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Buck Ashcraft funeral home. The family will be there to greet you between 6:00 and 7:30.
Mann’s memorial service will be held at the 8th and Harrison Church of Christ on Friday, October 5 at 11:00 am. A private, family graveside service will be conducted later that day.
Instead of flowers, the family has asked that donations be sent to the Worship Ministry at the 8th & Harrison Church of Christ.
