Daisy R. Bernardo Curbelo, 72, passed away on November 4, 2011 at her residence.
Daisy was born in Havana, Cuba on May 15, 1939 to Ricardo Bernardo and Adoracion Curbelo. She owned and operated her own kindergarten for 17 years in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Daisy later taught elementary and middle school in Miami, FL and retired after 40 years of teaching. She had been a resident of Harlingen since 2001. Daisy enjoyed gardening and cooking.
She is survived by her son, Daniel A. Fuentes; daughter-in-law, Garianne Fuentes; grandsons, Ryan Fuentes, Robert Fuentes, Daniel Fuentes and Nicholas Fuentes; brother Ricardo Bernardo; and sister, Gloria Alba Bernardo both of Miami, Florida. Also surviving her are nieces, Carmen Friguls, Gloria Rodriguez, Dagmar Messier, and Lourdes Bernardo and nephews, Ricky Bernardo, Armando Sanchez and Jorge Sanchez. Daisy was preceded in death by her father, Ricardo Bernardo and mother, Adoracion Curbelo.
A celebration of Daisy’s life will be held Saturday, November 12, 2011, 2 p.m., at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Harlingen with Rev. Scott Brown and Rev. Chris Caddell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the St. Albans Episcopal Day School Scholarship Fund, 1417 East Austin, Harlingen, Texas 78550.
