Sid Krotzer passed away on September 4, 2013, in McAllen, Texas, where he has lived for the last several years. Longtime resident of Harlingen, Sid was a native of Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Sid is survived by his wife Gene of Harlingen, his two children, Sydna Roseborough and Kent Krotzer, granddaughter Stacey and great grandson Nicholas Davis. Sid also leaves a niece and nephews, dear friend Bea Sabo of McAllen, and care-giver, Velma Alaniz of Rio Hondo. Sid leaves behind friends in both the Harlingen and McAllen areas, as well as comrades in arms from both the United States and Canada.
During World War II, Sid was a member of the “Devil’s Brigade,” the First Special Service Force, an elite Canadian-American unit. In recognition of their extraordinary service, on May 31, 2013, the First Special Service Force was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.
Known for his humor and compassion, as well as his generosity, Sid was much beloved by those whose lives he touched, and he will be greatly missed. Sid will be laid to rest with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.
