Curtis Leo Boykin

Curtis Leo “Cotton” Boykin, 84, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011.  Curtis was born August 14, 1926 in Quitman, MS to Ira and Claudie Mae Boykin.
Curtis was a graduate of Santa Rosa High School and later attended Southmost College in Brownsville. On June 2, 1944, Curtis joined the U.S. Navy and served 20 months of sea duty on the USS Alhena in the Asiatics-Pacific area.
On June 17, 1949, Curtis married Maxine (Margrave) in Harlingen at the 1st United Methodist Church.  In 1950, Curtis worked at the Carthage Hydrocol Plant at the Port of Brownsville.  Then in 1953, he began his employment with Central Power & Light in Corpus Christi and in 1954 in Victoria.  After 18 months of working in Victoria, he then returned to Corpus Christi working in the C.P. & L. tax department until 1969.  He then transferred to the parent company of C.P. & L. (CSW) in Dallas until his retirement in 1984.  He returned to Harlingen in 2008.
Curtis had many interests which included boxing, football, track & field, baseball, basketball, and especially golf during his retirement years.  He loved to travel in the family RV to the Seniors Golf tournaments to play golf with his buddies.  He was always dreaming of that hole in one and his greatest joy was playing golf with his 3 sons.  He was baptized in the Baptist Church in Santa Rosa.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Zora Maxine Boykin of Harlingen; children, Frank & Diane Boykin of Houston, TX,  Travis & Sherry Sales of Flower Mound, TX, Glen & Karen Boykin of Seneca Falls, NY, Mark & Darlene Boykin of Euless, TX; brother & sisters, Donnie Boykin of Brownsville, James Boykin of Elmira, NY, Yvonne Willis of Kingsville, TX, Iva Joy Gray of Harlingen, Dennis Boykin of Combes; grandchildren, Jamie Sales, Stephanie Sanderson, Chris Boykin, Michael Boykin, Lindsey Boykin, Courtney Boykin, Kim Holland; 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, J.W. Boykin and Roger Boykin and sister, Elsie Palmer.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Graveside services only will be held at Restlawn Memorial Park, 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 21, 2011 with Bro. Bob Cole officiating.  Full Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #205.
Pallbearers will be family members, Frank Boykin, Travis Sales, Michael Boykin, Mark Boykin, Mike Gray, and Bo Boykin.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at Angel Care, especially Belinda, Nelly, Elba, Vicki, Vanessa, Maricela, Amelia, Margarita, and Pee Wee for all their loving care and devotion to Curtis.  The family would also like to extend our gratitude to Greater Valley Hospice for the comfort and thoughtfulness they provided to Curtis during his illness.
