Consuelo (Chelo) Gonzalez

Consuelo (Chelo) Gonzalez, 86, entered eternal rest on August 18, 2018.  Chelo was born on September 22, 1931 in Sayula, Jalisco, Mexico to Consuelo Diaz and General Leopoldo Garcia Estevez.

Consuelo was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, the Honorable Cesar Gonzalez, former mayor of San Benito.  She is survived by her children, Ramiro (Yolanda) Gonzalez, Rolando (Jeanice) Gonzalez, Gus (Janie) Gonzalez, and Consuelo (Amalia) Gonzalez; her grandchildren, Cristina (Leo) Vasquez, Gus (Claudia) Gonzalez, Denay (Raul) Gonzalez, Kasandra, Rolandito, Cesar (Romana) Gonzalez, and Mando (Karly) Gonzalez; and, nine great grandchildren.

Consuelo was raised by her grandmother, Modesta Diaz, in Sayula, Jalisco until Cesar, who worked for U.S.D.A., had a quarantine assignment in Sayula, met Consuelo and brought her to San Benito.

Consuelo was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church.  She served her community including San Benito Food Pantry, Good Neighbor Council and was instrumental in transporting supplies to earthquake victims of Ciudad Guzman, Jalisco.

She was a blessing to many.  Consuelo was known to recite beautiful Rosaries for many who were in need.

The Gonzalez family wishes to express special thanks to her providers Amada Charqueño and Aurora Lopez who took very good care of Consuelo as if their own mom.  Also, thanks to Kindred Hospice for their services.

Serving as pallbearers are Rolandito, Mando, Cesar, Raul, Gus Gonzalez, and Josh Bañuelos.

Visitation will take place at San Benito Funeral Home on Monday, August 20, 2018 beginning at 4:00 PM with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Benedict Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
