Colleen F. Guenzel

March 26, 1927 — April 21, 2017

Colleen Faye Guenzel, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017. Born Colleen Faye Dawson on March 26, 1927 in Belleville, IL to parents, Frieda and Roy Dawson. Colleen married Lawrence “Lefty” Guenzel in 1949 and they had two sons, Gordon Lee Guenzel and Gary Martin Guenzel whom all preceded her in death.
Colleen moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1945. Her careers included many years with Southwestern Bell in Illinois and Texas, and during WW II she worked as an accomplished assembly line worker welding air plane tanks. When Collen met Lefty, he could not believe she could weld. He took her to his welding shop; put a welding rod in her hand and she proved her welding talents. Collen and Lefty soon married and she left professional life to become a homemaker and loving mother. Colleen and Lefty lived in Harlingen where they owned and operated Guenzel Metal Products.
Colleen and Lefty built a second home on South Padre Island in the early 1960’s, where Collen enjoyed many good times at “the beach house” with her family, swimming, fishing, hosting friends and adventurously exploring the beaches of South Padre Island in her beach buggy.
Colleen is survived by her granddaughter, Meagan Guenzel Farris and great grandson, Grant Guenzel Farris.
As per her wishes no services will be held.
