Colleen Kane Albury

October 1, 1952 — July 18, 2017

Colleen Kane Albury, 64, passed away Tuesday, July 18th, 2017 in Harlingen, Texas.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Colleen and her parents moved to Harlingen in the 1950’s where her grandparents started Richard’s Restaurant, a business co-owned and operated by her family for over 30 years.

A 1971 graduate of Harlingen High, Colleen met the love of her life, Stanley, in the Bahamas and lived there, on the beach, for five years before returning to Harlingen to raise her family and start a business, Just For Babies.  In her 20 plus years as owner of Just For Babies, Colleen was a true “Baby Whisperer”; thousands of local mothers could bring their babies in for the perfect outfit with a personal touch.  She couldn’t wait for her customers to return with their new babies so she could hold them, the fatter the baby, the more she enjoyed them.

One thing Colleen was always known for was the tight bonds she felt to her family. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life.  She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Stanley Albury; daughter, Lee Ann Albury; her son Joseph (Tiffany) Albury; sister Kelly (Henry) Roberts; brother Terry Kane; granddaughters, Gwendolyn Ann (age 6) and Kathryn Colleen (age 4); local nephews Tracy (Erin) Roberts, Philip (Mallory) Roberts; niece Hilary Kane (Tim) Cronin; her aunt Janice (Fred) Kane Albury; 4  beloved nieces and 4 nephews on the Albury side; and great niece Riley Roberts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Ann Kane; brothers Tommy, Timothy and Tracy Kane.

Those who knew her life will no doubt have stories to tell about Colleen; whether she was angering nuns at St. Anthony’s, being the life of a high school party, teaching Bahamians some unique and occasionally inappropriate turns of phrase, or saying curse words in Spanish without knowing what they meant, Colleen could always be counted on to lighten the mood and provide laughter.  We’re certain she is making a big entrance to Heaven and that she is having a great time with her brothers and parents while waiting on the rest of the gang to join her.

The family wishes to thank the staff and personnel at Cano House One, Father “Mac” MacDonald, and the medical, nursing, and support staff at HMC.

A visitation with family will be held Saturday from 1-2 PM  followed by a memorial service at 2 PM at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, and knowing her love of the babies and children, memorial donations can be to CCCAC, Maggie & Monica’s House, P.O. Box 2145, San Benito, Texas 78586.
