Rio Hondo, TX - Clarence Cash Bishop, 89, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2011 in Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen Texas.
Clarence was born in Rio Hondo on December 9, 1921; after graduating from Rio Hondo High School he left for Kansas where he worked at Boeing before entering World War II. He was stationed in Tucson and returned to Rio Hondo in 1945 where he lived until his death. He was released from the service the day after his 24th birthday, December 10, 1945. He farmed and was a civilian worker at Harlingen Air Force Base until it closed in 1961. He continued to farm until his retirement and then continued working with his garden, flowers and fruit trees. He was a caring and devoted husband and father.
Clarence is preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Grantham Bishop; and his second wife, Maria Gonzalez Bishop; his parents, George and Nellie Bishop; and his three brothers, Morris, James and Calvin Bishop.
Clarence is survived by his daughters, Rowena (Lewis) Archer and Judith (Jim) Wagner; and his step-children, Eusebio (Olivia) Alvarado, Amelia (Gregorio) Lopez, Elisa (Roy) Cavazos, and Petra (Lupe) Atkinson; along with numerous grand, great grand and great -great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2011 from 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at San Benito Funeral Home.
Graveside service will be held Friday, February 25, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
