Cheryl Yvonne Shield, 64, was called home by the Lord at 7:00 p.m. on August 27, 2017. Loving friends and family surrounded her in the days before her passing.
Born Cheryl Yvonne Hudson at March Air Force Base near Riverside, CA on May 24th, 1953, Cheryl was raised in Gorman, TX by her grandfather Lucius Johnson and her precious grandmother Rachel. She was awarded a degree in Interior Design by the Bauder Fashion College in Arlington, TX – the city where she also met the love of her life, Gary. They were married April 2nd, 1976 in Granbury, TX and later raised one son, Tyler, in Harlingen, TX.
Cheryl was a woman of God who loved and honored the Lord all the days of her life. She was a good and faithful servant, one whose kindness and spirit of perseverance will be remembered by all who knew her.
Cheryl is survived by her loving son, Tyler William Shield, brother Ellery Francisco with wife Anita, and sister Sondra Roper, as well as her nieces and nephews Annie Allen, Laura Blackwell, Ellery Francisco Jr., Ian Francisco, Shelby Francisco, Angela Roper, and Brian Shield. She was preceded in death by her parents, Colonel William Greer and Gloria Greer, as well as her beloved husband, Gary Lee Shield.
A celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 710 N. Ed Carey Dr. Harlingen, TX 78550 (956) 423-3636.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Father’s House (a mission outreach for orphans and abandoned, homeless, or neglected children in the Philippines) via Sheila Jackson at 17853 Osborn Ave, Harlingen, TX, (956) 245-1774.
