TYLER/HARLINGEN, TX:
Charlie R. Mills entered his eternal home on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 from Tyler, Texas at the age of 90. Charlie was born on July 26, 1917 in Longridge, Texas. On December 24, 1937 he married Freda Chessher, who preceded him in death on May 20, 2007. They were married 69 years.
Charlie lived in Harlingen over 60 years. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church for 54 years; many of those years he served as Sunday School superintendent and a board member.
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy aboard a communications ship in the Pacific.
After working many years as an auto mechanic, he taught auto mechanics at TSTI until the time of his retirement.
Charlie was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by three children, James (Janice) Mills of Longview, TX, Charles (Virginia) Mills of San Antonio, TX, Carol (Gary) Taylor of Tyler, TX; eight grandchildren, Pam Carey, Jimmy Mills, Amy Mills, Charlotte Contreras, Ron Mills, Brian Taylor, Jennifer Beasley and Chris Taylor; nine great-grandchildren, one sister and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 7, 2007 form 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with family present form 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Funeral services will beheld at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Wade Peyton officiating. Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
