Charles H. Washmon

Harlingen/South Padre Island:
Charles “Charlie” Hoyte Washmon, 73 passed away Monday, June 27, 2011 at Solara Hospital in Harlingen.
Charles was born November 1, 1937 in Harlingen to Charles A. and Dorothy Washmon.  He graduated from Harlingen High School and later graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA with a B.S. Degree.
Upon returning to the Valley, Charles entered the family farm equipment business, Aldridge-Washmon Company in Harlingen, San Benito, Brownsville and Raymondville.  He was President of Aldridge-Washmon Company and also of Washmon Motor Company in Raymondville.  He later became owner of Valley Weathermakers in Harlingen.
Charles was active in civic and cultural activities throughout the Valley.  He at one time was President of the Raymondville Rotary Club, member of the Harlingen Rotary Club, President of the Tip of Texas Girl Scout Council, member of the Raymondville Chamber of Commerce, Founding Board member of the Gladys Porter Zoo and member of the Port Isabel Yacht Club.
He is survived by his children, Sandra Kay Washmon Huff (Mark J.) of Raleigh, NC, Charles H. Washmon, Jr. of New Orleans, LA and Charlotte Washmon Savage (Todd) of Dallas; brother, John Richard (Dick) Washmon; grandchildren, Wesley Houston Huff, Melissa Marie Huff, Garrett Justice Savage and Tucker Martin Savage.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Charles’s Life will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 30, 2011 with the Rev. David Mann officiating.  Private interment at Mont Meta Memorial Park precedes the celebration.  The family request in keeping with Charles’s carefree spirit, to dress casual and come as you are.
Honorary Pallbearers will be John Calkins, Carl Beller, Joe Martin, Todd Savage, Mark Huff, Dick Washmon Neal Runnels, Al Jones and Charles Wade.
The family would like to thank all of the caretakers from Companion Sitter Service for all their loving care and concern.
