Charles “Chuck” Hurman, 72, passed away May 15, 2013 at Harlingen Medical Center.
Chuck was born December 18, 1940 in Baltimore, MD to Samuel Humanuik Hurman and Frances Jefferson Hurman. He proudly served his county in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1983. During his service with the U.S. Navy he was stationed aboard the USS Boston, USS Ranger, USS Independence, USS Roosevelt, USS Lexington, and USS Midway. Chuck was also a Vietnam Veteran. He married Dianne (Heinold) Hurman on January 6, 1961.
After he retired from the U.S. Navy he went to work for the Department of Army and Army Depot in Corpus Christi, TX from 1984 – 1995. Then he was employed with the U.S. Immigration and Detention from 1998 to 2001.
He was a member and volunteer of the Frank Ferree Border Relief in Harlingen, TX providing aid to the needy of Mexico’s Border cities for the past 30 years. He was an Alumni member of the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels. Chuck enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling and country music. He loved teaching the grandchildren the great outdoors and helping those less fortunate and relaxing on the Resaca in his backyard with his dog Blu.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 52 years , Dianne (Heinold) Hurman of San Benito, TX; daughters, Lorraine Guerra of Burlington, IA and USN 1st Class Tammy and husband USN 1st Class Retired David Adams of Danville, IA; son, Samuel and his wife Christina Hurman of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, USN 1st Class Christopher Guerra of NAS Oceana, VA; USN 2nd Class Anthony Pranger of NAS Signella, Italy, USN 2nd Class Amber Corbett of NAS Jacksonville, FL, Katrina Guerra of Houston, TX; seven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Alsace Heinold of Danville, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Frances Hurman; brothers, John Hurman and Albert Hurman; sisters, Helen Bilenk and Charlotte Hurman all of Baltimore, MD; father-in-law, Levi Heinold; and brother-in-law, Thomas Heinold all of Dannville, IA.
A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 710 Ed Carey Dr., Harlingen, TX from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013. Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC at a later date.
