Charles William Browning Jr.

January 18, 1954 — May 6, 2010

Charles William Browning, Jr., 56, of Harlingen, TX went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, May 06, 2010.
He was born January 18, 1954 in Knox City, TX to Charles William and Nelda Charlene (Smith) Browning.  The family moved from Munday TX to Lyford, TX in 1959 where Chuck began his lifelong love of the Magic Valley.  “Charlie” was a beloved son and grandson, devoted husband and father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend and colleague, and the best grandfather “POPO” a grandchild could ever have.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sharla Jann (Browning) Hayes; one Smith uncle, Edward (Mozelle); one  Smith aunt, Doris Ann; and father-in-law, Encarnacion Sauceda.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; three daughters, Katie (Robert) Arellano of San Marcos, TX; Cassie Browning (David Fisher) of Houston, TX; Jessica Garcia (John Ballou) of The Woodlands, TX; a son, Eddie (Cristi) Garcia of Brownsville, TX; five grandchildren, Nick Garcia, Crista, Marina, & Tristan Garcia; Ava Arellano; one sister, Kathe “Kate” Browning Ware (Harry) of Corpus Christi, TX; one niece, Angela (Geno) Garza of Austin, TX; one nephew, SSGT Charles (Krystle) Ulatoski, US Army, Ft. Irwin, CA; one great-niece, Brooklynn Ulatoski; one great-nephew, Ivan Garza; four Smith uncles, James (Millie) and Joel (Exa Lee) of Munday TX, Jesse (Jean) of Hurst, TX and one Smith aunt, Maidee (Dean) Ferguson of College Station, TX; numerous Smith and Browning cousins.
Mr. Browning graduated from Lyford High School and Texas A & I University, Corpus Christi, TX. He worked for GMAC, Texas Bank for Cooperatives; was manager of Lyford Gin Association, and was currently General Manager of North Alamo Water Supply Corporation: “El Chingon del Agua.” Charlie was a committee member of Rio Grande Regional Water Authority, Rio Grande Valley Partnership, Lower Rio Grande Valley Water Committee, Region M Committee, and South Texas Water Utilities Manager Association. Mr. Browning helped to pioneer the use of reverse osmosis in the Rio Grande Valley, which revolutionized the supply of potable water in the Valley.
Everyone who knew Charlie loved being with him and recognized his genuine zeal for pursuing excellence.  He had an incredible love for family, especially his grandson Nick.  He accepted our imperfections while he encouraged us towards being the best we could possibly achieve.  He was quiet yet fun loving, a gentle giant whom many a man would strive to emulate.  He was an avid reader and loved golf, fishing, farming, and laughing.  He was a man of valor who fought tirelessly for the right things.  Because of his decision for Christ in 1965, we can confidently know that we will see him again one day.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 10, 2010 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
