Charlene M. Garrison, 78, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024, in Harlingen, Texas. She was born September 6, 1946, in Galveston, Texas to Charles William Marquis and Lannie G. Roach Marquis.
Charlene dedicated much of her professional life to St. Albans Episcopal Day School before becoming the owner and bookkeeper for Hurricane Fence Company, where she served for over 20 years before her retirement.
An active member of various organizations, Charlene was involved with the Christian Women’s Club and the Junior League of Harlingen. She also contributed her time as a third-grade Sunday School teacher and participated in Women's Bible Study. Charlene had a passion for connecting with friends and family through activities such as playing Words with her friends, watching Astros games with her husband, dining out with her family, and shopping with her grandchildren. She cherished her travels, particularly Alaskan cruises, and took great joy in teaching her Sunday School class Bible verses.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles William and Lannie G. Marquis, as well as her brothers, CW Marquis, Don Marquis and Earl Marquis.
Charlene is lovingly remembered by her husband, Roy Garrison Jr; her children, Lannie Rusher (Mike) and Roy Garrison III; her grandchildren, Harley and Houston Rusher, and Nolan and Marien Garrison; her sister-in-law, Ann Garrison; her beloved Dachshund, Odie, and her wonderful friend and caregiver, Cristina Mendez.
The family expresses its gratitude to MD Anderson, Gentiva, and JoAnn Folsom, Harlingen Companion Sitter Services, Charlene’s Bible Study Group, Fara Jones, and Susie Hood for their compassionate care.
The Garrison family will receive friends and family on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral. A celebration of Charlene’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. that afternoon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Charlene.
