Cesar Melquiades Parra, Sr. of Harlingen passed away in his home Sunday evening, January 17, 2010 with his family by his side.
Cesar was born February 25, 1928 in Topila, Veracruz Mexico. He came to Harlingen at the age 22 and worked for Pletcher Nursery. He later started working as a carpenter in 1954. Cesar went on to work as a home builder for Contractors: Roy Self, Roy Howell & Hank Coe, Robert Roloff, Richard Fitzpatrick and Tony Meyn and Jerry Grey. Cesar was responsible for building many of the first homes in Palm Valley Estates and Treasure Hills and building new homes through out the valley until his retirement in 2007.
Cesar was preceded in death by his parents, Alvaro & Basilisa Parra; one sister, Irma Perez; and one brother Jorge Parra.
He is survived by his loving wife Rosa Sordia Parra of 58 years; his sons Robert (Linda), Alvaro (Julie), Cesar, Jr. (Josie), Ray (Irene) and Israel (Yolanda). Cesar has seven grandchildren, Rosemary Ybarra, Diana Villarreal, Roxanne Sanchez, Veronica Parra, Justin Parra, Alison Parra, Megan Parra and ten great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Sadoth Parra; his brothers, Eleuterio and Pablo Parra all of Tampico, Mexico and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
One of Cesar’s favorite past times was fishing with his sons, his grandson and his friends. He also built many scooters for fishing, a hobby that he immensely enjoyed.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Amada Borgen for her loyal service in caring for Cesar and also to Dr. Rolando Posada and his nurses, Janie Garza and Noemi Lopez and to Odyssey Hospice.
Visitation will be held on January 20, 2010 from12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on January 21, 2010, 10:00 a.m., at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home with David Mann officiating and cremation to follow.
