Harlingen:
Cecil Arthur Ashley, 84, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015 at his residence in Harlingen, TX after a lengthy illness.
Cecil was born on December 30, 1930 in Edgar Township, Illinois to Lawrence and Gladys Ashley. He graduated from Goshen College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and from the Fuller Theological Seminary. He then served in the US Army during the Korean War where he received the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. He then served in the Army reserves for many years.
In June of 1956 he married Margaret Pearl Brubacher. Cecil soon after received his ministerial license and was ordained in the Mennonite Church and to the Overseas Mennonite Board of Missions. He spent over 53 years in Brazil serving and church planting. He served under Mennonite Board of Missions and then as independent missionaries building and ministering at the Shalom retreat center. He also ministered through the Presbyterian Church for many years.
Cecil is survived by his wife, Margaret Ashley; granddaughter, Titiana Correa Ashley; great-granddaughter, Giovanna Ashley Silva; sister, Verdie Land; brother, LorneAshley; nephew and niece, Michael & Joanne (Brubacher) McCulley and many more much loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Marcos, brother, Lonny and a sister, Connie.
Memorial services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Harlingen, 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 28, 2015 with Pastor Wade Hood officiating.
