Catherine (Guetzow) Corbello

Catherine Guetzow Corbello, 94, passed peacefully from this life on March 23, 2018 in Hiawatha, Iowa.  She was born to Charles Guetzow and Emma Reta Guetzow on April 28, 1923 in San Benito, Texas.

As a young adult, during World War II, Catherine was employed by the federal government in Washington, D.C.  After the war, she began her long career with the GMAC Division of General Motors from where she retired.

Catherine loved cooking and baking for her family and friends.  She enjoyed the music of Julio Iglesias and loved to dance.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Day, with whom she had a daughter, Sandra.  After Richard’s passing, Catherine married Richard Corbello who also preceded her in death.  She was also predeceased by her granddaughter, Ryan Walton; her siblings, F. Charles Guetzow, Lawrence David Guetzow, Lily Guetzow Mancillas, and Faustino Guetzow; sister-in-law, Petra Guetzow; and brother-in-law, Raul Mancillas.

Left to treasure Catherine’s memory is her daughter Sandra Day Walton (Corry); grandchildren, Oliver Walton, Sally Walton; great-grandchildren, Ruby Walton, Elliot Walton; brother, Eugene A. (Griselda) Guetzow; sisters-in-law, Bonny Guetzow, Natalia Guetzow; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Catherine’s family will be receiving relatives and friends on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM at San Benito Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in San Benito.  Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha, Iowa for their compassionate care.  They are also grateful to Father Joe Villalon and Ms. Norma Castillo for the care and assistance they have received during this difficult time.
