Carlos Vasquez Flores, Sr., passed away peacefully on December 3, 2010, 9 days after his 100th birthday. He was born on November 24, 1910 in San Carlos Tamps., Mexico to Brigido and Hilaria V. Flores.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Maria Refugia Hodges Flores; daughter, Hilaria “Lala” Flores Martinez; son, Adan Flores; two grandsons, Arnold and Rene Pequeno; one granddaughter, Carmelita Martinez; one great granddaughter, Sarah Metivier and one great great granddaughter.
Mr. Flores is survived by his daughters, Sister Charles Marie of San Antonio, TX, Oralia (Victor) De La Cruz of Houston, TX, Lile Flores of San Benito, Celina (Joe) Carmona of Yuba City, CA and Emerita (Jose) San Pedro of San Benito; his sons, Dagoberto (Lucia) Flores of San Benito and Carlos H. (June) Flores Jr. of San Benito.
He is also survived by his brothers, Gregorio (Emma) Flores, Cleofas (Dolores) Flores, Nicolas Flores; his sisters, Romana (Epifanio) Morales and Catalina Mora.
Carlos was a talented craftsman and his love was working out in the yard planting. He had the gift of the “green” thumb and was able to make anything grow. He enjoyed playing bingo and talking about the good old days. He was a member of St. Benedicts Catholic Church, where he sat on the first pew for many years. Mr. Flores leaves behind a legacy of four generations, 24 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. We will all miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 5, 2010 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the holy rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. and on Monday, December 6, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the holy rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home.
The funeral procession will depart San Benito Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Benedicts Catholic Church in San Benito. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
Pallbearers will be Timothy Flores, Toby Flores, Dagoberto Flores Jr., Adan Flores, Jose Carlos San Pedro, Nicolas San Pedro, John David Corona, and Reynaldo Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be Gabriel Carmona, Danny Carmona, Carlos Flores III, Anthony San Pedro, Joe Pequeno, Ralph Martinez, and Laura Flores.
The family would like to thank Valley Baptist Medical Center 4th floor nurses and assistants, Dr. Todd Shenkenberg, Dr. William Heins and Aminity Hospice for all their care and attention given to Mr. Flores.
