Harlingen:
Carl L. Bowman, 92, passed away Friday, July 20, 2007 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
Carl was born July 1, 1915 in Waterloo, Indiana to parents Delbert and Grace Echols Bowman. He came to the Valley with his family in 1924 and lived in Edcouch. After completing high school in Edinburg and graduating from Byrne Commercial College in Dallas, he met his wife, Joella Murray. The were married 63 years before she preceded him in death in 2002.
Carl served in the US Air Force during World War II which sparked his love for airplanes. He was an early member and became a life member of the Confederate Air Force. He was a member of the Harlingen Masonic Lodge #1132 and a charter member of the Harlingen Elks Lodge #1889. He founded Bowman Distributing Company in 1949.
He is survived by his son, Dennis (Cheryl) Bowman, daughter, Bettye (Gene) Estilette; 3 grandchildren, Carloyn, Donna, and Sheri; and 7 great grandchildren, Bryan, Barrett, Brenden, Jordan, Heather, Zac and Sarah-Eve.
Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home, Tuesday, July 24, 2007.
Graveside services only will be held at the Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco, 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 25, 2007 with Military Honors being conducted by the American Legion Post #205 and VFW Lodge #2410.
