Candelario Mena, 90, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, September 28, 2018. He was born on February 2, 1928 to Alfredo Mena & Juanita De La Rosa Mena in Viesca, Coahuila, Mexico.
Candelario was a member of St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Rio Hondo. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with family.
Candelario was preceded in death by his parents, Alfredo and Juanita Mena; mother-in-law, Benigna Martinez; stepdaughter, Maria Anselma Leon; and niece, Ana B. Bickerstaff of Port Lavaca.
Left to treasure his memory is his wife, Maria Rendon Mena; his children, Alfredo (Rosa) Mena, Raul Mena, Jose Candelario Mena, Antonio Mena, Juanita (Michael) Carmona, Ana M. (Francisco) Melendez, Arturo (Nelda) Mena; stepchildren; Gilbert (Gloria) Leon, Filomena (Ruben) Salinas, Amalia Sandoval, Guadalupe (Jauny) Leon, Ricardo (Elida) Leon; 27 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild.
The Mena family will be receiving friends and relatives on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM at San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Rio Hondo, TX. Candelario will be laid to rest at San Benito Memorial Park.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are, Bryan Barron, Steven Barron, Eric Melendez, Saul Melendez, Alfredo Mena, Jr., and Joseph Mena. Honorary pallbearers will be Joel Mena and Maria E. Melendez.
