Bruce Reeves

July 19, 1921 — January 7, 2009

Harlingen, TX:
Bruce Reeves of Harlingen passed away on January 7, 2009.  Bruce was born in Wichita Falls on July 19, 1921 to Jewel and William Bruce Reeves.  The family moved to Combes, Texas in 1931 and opened Reeves Oil and Butane.
Flying was Bruce's passion and at the age of 15 he took lessons with money he'd earned from a summer job and soloed after only two lessons.
After graduating from Harlingen High School in 1939, he attended the University of Texas where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.  He joined the Army Air Corps prior to WWII in order to become a pilot.  He helped usher in the B-26 bomber and loved to regale family and friends with exciting stories of his wartime adventures.
After the war, he worked for Pan Am Airways as a pilot but left when his father urged him to return to help run the family business.  Later, along with partners Gene Taylor, Don Bentsen, Maurice Bell, and Paul Thompson, they formed Highway Pipeline Trucking Company and Johnson LPG Corporation.
In 1962, Bruce and Patti Cheek Rose married and continued to live in Harlingen for over 46 years.  After selling the businesses, Bruce was employed by Harlingen National Bank as director of their organization for seniors called "The Golden Club". Golf was another passion of Bruce's and he and Patti enjoyed being members of "Life Begins At 40" through which they made many lifelong friends.  Bruce was also a 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner, and a member of the Confederate Air Force.
His loving family consisted of wife, Patti, daughter Kim Parker and her husband David, son Mike Rose, and grandchildren Elise and Gillian Rose, Caitlin and Shannon Parker, cousin Wilfred Scholefield, as well as many dear friends.
After cremation, a memorial service will be held Monday, January 12, 2p.m., at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 1417 East Austin, in Harlingen.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rick and Philip Guerrero, Doak Dunkin, Brooks Greer, Brad Farris, Marshall and Andy Graham, Retlaw Greene, Bobby Jackson, Greg Powers, Mark Pratt, and Alan Reeder.
