Bonnie Skaggs

November 7, 1957 — May 17, 2021

Bonnie Sue Wienen Skaggs of Harlingen, Texas passed away peacefully on May 17, 2021 after a brief illness.

Bonnie was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on November 7, 1957 to Dorian Joseph Wienen and Alma Speaker Wienen Wiesman. She attended Saint Anthony’s Catholic School, Vernon Jr. High School, Harlingen High School, and Del Mar College in Corpus Christi.

After returning to the Valley, she began working as a legal secretary, and married the love of her life, Jack Toby Skaggs, in 1985.  In 1991, she and Toby welcomed their daughter, Tegan, and raised her in a home filled with love and horses. Tegan’s affinity for horses was something passed to her, and always encouraged, by Bonnie.

Bonnie later enjoyed a successful career in real estate, as a loan officer with Texas State Bank, and later, as a legal assistant, and was well respected in her field before her retirement.  After retiring, Bonnie enjoyed traveling, gardening and dancing.

Bonnie was someone who could always be counted on to offer a helping hand, not only to her friends, but to anyone in need.  Although she could be direct, fearless, and maybe even a little stubborn at times, she had a kind heart.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Jack Toby Skaggs, her daughter Tegan Davis (Michael), her mother, Alma Speaker Wienen Wiesman, as well as the countless many who knew her as a spiritual mother, sister, daughter, and friend.  She was preceded in death by her father, Dorian Joseph Wienen, and brothers Ricky and Michael Wienen.

The family will have a visitation on Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home.  A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Alban's Episcopal Church in Harlingen.
