Bonnie Gayle Phillips, 54, passed away February 11, 2009 at Aurora House in Weslaco.
Gayle was born March 31, 1954 in Harlingen, Texas to Emmett J. and the late Natalie (Shanks) Billings. She attended Harlingen High School and Texas State University of San Marcos, Texas. Bonnie formerly taught at Raymondville High School and then taught art at Harlingen South High School. She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed playing the piano, printmaking, and art of all kinds. Gayle was a member of the First Baptist Church in Harlingen and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Harlingen.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Natalie Billings.
Gayle is survived by her daughters, Lauren Phillips of San Francisco, CA, Natalie and Abigail Phillips of Denton, TX; her father Emmett J. Billings of Harlingen; step-mother, Virginia; brothers, Gary Billings of Harlingen and Dennis Billings of Paducah, KY; Aunt Jean and Uncle Bonnie (Shanks); step-brother, Joe (Mary) Johnson of Galveston, IN. Also surviving is her uncle Joe Thompson; her beloved pet “Jerry dog”; and many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 5 p.m. with Rev. Brandon Helm officiating.
