SAN BENITO, TX:
Billy Dolye Martin died in San Benito, Texas on Thursday, September 25, 2008 at the age of 72.
Bill was born to Ivan Doyle and Evelyn Martin on April 7, 1936 in Corpus Christi, TX; he was the oldest of three sons. After graduating from high school, he served in the Air Force for four years. On September 22, 1957, he married the love of his life Eloise Inman and they moved to Ridgecrest, California where he worked for the Navel Weapons Center in China Lake. During his work there, he traveled to many foreign countries always bringing back wonderful stories and gifts for his family. After he retired, he and Eloise traveled all over the United States and Canada. They celebrated their fiftieth anniversary in Hawaii.
Bill was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who loved more than anything spending time with his family and friends. He was a craftsman and artist, using his talents making them wonderful gifts.
Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years, Eloise Martin of San Benito; three children, Michael Martin and wife Sheri of Rowlett, Texas, Kim Koenig and husband, James of Gilbert, Arizona, Jeff Martin and wife Pam of Pflugerville, Texas; two brothers, Bob Martin and wife Rachel of Snyder, Texas, Darell Martin and wife Annette of Abilene, Texas; nine grandchildren, Krislyn, Ashley, Hunter, Tanner, Melissa, Daniel, Katelynn, Kristen and Kensley; five great grandchildren, Kayla, Cameron, Makayla, Alyssa and Kalan. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son.
A memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 2nd at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harlingen, TX. His ashes will be laid to rest at Rio Grande Veterans Cemetery in Mission, TX at 2 p.m. with full military graveside services under the auspices of the American Legion Post 205.
